Who we are

Hello, everyone! We are TRECE (Workshop on Race, Ethnicity, and Citizenship in Spain), a research collective founded in 2019 with a vital mission: to critically examine questions of race, racialization, and racial diversity in contemporary Spanish society. We are a network of scholars from a range of disciplines who firmly believe that it is essential to study these issues rigorously and to amplify antiracist scholarship, pedagogy, and dialogue in the specific context of twenty-first-century Spain and the Iberian Peninsula.

At TRECE, we hold that racial diversity is a permanent and fundamental feature of Spain today, not a temporary matter tied solely to migration. Our work seeks to move beyond the migration framework to investigate the complex historical and ongoing processes of racialization that shape social realities and lived experiences. Through our research, teaching, and public engagement, we seek to deepen understanding of how race is constructed and represented in Iberian cultural production, media, and popular culture.
